Y ask Y?.... Y Not ask Y Not?

First of all, let me apologize to anyone who reads this blog in a language other than English.  My attempts at clever puns will undoubtable fall flat upon translation.

Because the organization I was in as a young man was identified with a Y, whenever I see the letter Y, I think of my YOUTH.

I have a YEARNING to be YOUNG again.

And speaking of young, anyone who has ever had a YOUNG child knows that "Y", or more accurately, "WHY", is their favorite word.

So, as I think of my YOUTH, I can't help but ask "Y ?"

Y did I do what I did?

Y didn't I do what I didn't do?

And of course, who can think of their YOUTH without seeing Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinnie, speaking about the "Two Utes"

Speaking of Utes, reminds me of Utah, where I spent my YOUTH.

What YUMMY, or YUCKY parts of YOUR YOUTH do YOU YEARN for?

And what does Y make you think about?

  1. My younger daughter is going through a Shel Silverstein phase. We read many of the poems in "Where the Sidewalk Ends" last night. For some reason, this reminded me of some of them ;-)

    Um ... yay :-)

  2. That's a great idea for introducing Y. I never thought of how pronouncing a letter makes a word.

  9. So sorry Roger:( At the end of my training I did a 6 month rotation at the hospital in Hospice. Learned a lot about the end of life, and about the ones left behind. For the family and friends it's very necessary to be able to say goodbye or to support the ones who grieve.

  13. Fun entry! I Yearn for my Youthful days of summer...when there was nothing to do for two months but play! I so should have followed in my mother's footsteps and been a teacher so I could continue to have summers off! (Not suggesting teachers are slackers, just to be clear. I honour and respect their hard work throughout the rest of the year, just saying the summers off part of the gig is a sweet deal!)

    1. Very clever! Y is a difficult letter. Originally it didn't excist in Dutch. In stead of Y we had IJ. Nowadays we have adapted Y and gave it the same place in the alphabet the English speaking world does. Our alphabet used to be X,IJ, Z.Now it is X, Y, Z. Actually I should find out how the German, French and other alphabeths are!!Interesting all those languages.

  14. I really enjoyed this post, maybe because Y also made me think of youth. Not so much that I yearn for it. It would be kind of nice to go back about 10-15 years, but not more than that for me :) What occurs to me is how much I have always learned and gained from being around young people. Must say "thank YOU for hosting this site. It is one that gives me great pleasure!
