I was named after my Grandfather and although Carver was also my middle name that's what everyone always called me. I ended up dropping my first name, since I had never been known by that name, when I got married in 1980 so Carver has been my first name since then. Below is a photograph of me when I was little Carver as opposed to now when I'm aging Carver.
Of course carver is also what someone is when they carve a turkey or roast but I've never been very good at that kind of carving. Come on in and join the fun with the letter C.

What a wonderful introduction. It looks like your grandfather died young as he looks so young in that photo. I am sorry you didn't get to know him personally but thrilled at how his legacy continues through you.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you and the entire ABC team for this awesome blog and meme and for a great avenue to meet and interact with fascinating people.
I guess I didn't realize Carver was your first name---it is so special to share that bond with your grandfather. He was a very handsome man and you of course such a cutie.

Oh, thanks for this, Carver. Yes, you ARE cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm still musing about my ancestors. I wasn't named for anyone, quite intentionally, and I'm good with that...
A sad part of your legacy is the fact that your Mother as well did not know her father. Your name is a wonderful tribute to him. I'm always happy to see how some families carry on an important family tradition with names.
ReplyDeleteCool post !!

What a great story for your nickname, Carver!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful how people's names come about? I was just discussing my middle name (also a family surname) with a blogging friend today. I agree with Roger, the photo of Little Carver is very cute.

What a lovely post, Carver. I always wondered about you name when I was at this site.
ReplyDeleteInteresting history of your name! Sad that your grandfather passed away before you got to know him...I only knew one of my biological grandparents...all the rest passed away before I was born.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! There is something quite special about being named for a treasured grandparent. My mom wanted to name me after her mother, but my dad wasn't keen on the name Edna so I was named after her grandmother instead.
ReplyDeletewhat a handsome man he was! and what an honor for your carrying on his name! my middle name is for my maternal grandmother.
ReplyDeleteOh Carver, what a delightful post! I loved learning about your name and its origins. My Mom was similarly named after her father who was killed by lightning when my grandmother was pregnant with her. It's fun to be back joining in again. I have a little "history" piece this time. Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteHi Carver! You were beautiful as a girl, and I think you must be still beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNice to know more about your name and grand father. You look quite playful from the picture.
ReplyDeleteNice to know a bit about you and I must say you do resemble your grandfather!! No wonder you were better known as Carver, nice to have a unique name!!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I love using family names, so we found names common in both sides of the family to name our daughters. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI've always liked your name and wondered about its significance. I'm so happy you decided to share that story with us. Beautiful photograph of you, too!
