Am I not one of the luckiest people alive? I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and have lived here most of my life. I do love to travel, especially to Great Britain, France, and Italy. But when I fly home and come in over the Pacific Ocean with the mountains on my left, I can't help but wonder why I ever left, if only for a vacation. I found this online at http://www.hellobc.com/vancouver.aspx:
Vancouver was recognized as the Top City in Canada in Condé Nast Traveler magazine's 2012 Readers' Choice Awards. The city was also named the Top Destination in Canada in TripAdvisor's 2012 Travelers' Choice awards, and was chosen as the world's "Most Liveable City" in 2010 by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a title it has been awarded eight times since 2002.
Vancouver offers travellers both outstanding opportunities for outdoor adventure and the sophisticated amenities of a world-class city. Take advantage of the city's oceanside location, with plenty of green space and many recreation opportunities in the mountains 20 minutes north of downtown. After a busy day, linger over a glass of BC wine and a locally inspired meal, or unwind at one of Vancouver's unique spas.
While this sea-level port city is known for its temperate climate, the surrounding snow-covered slopes are perfect for winter sports and breathtaking views of the city twinkling below. Vancouver is one of the few places in the world where it's possible to ski in the morning and sail in the afternoon.
I realize that every place in the world has its special and unique features, but who can argue with a place that has mountains, beaches, and scenery galore. Yes, we get rain in the winter, but our rain is soft and sprinkly, not a hard and driving rain like you get in other rainy locations! I seldom even need an umbrella! Vancouver is a very welcoming city so come on and visit!

great shots! :)
ReplyDeleteYou certainly live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. I always wanted to travel to Canada, but... One daughter lives in Australia, and that is more important for me, and I am too old to do more travelling than this flight to Australia.
ReplyDeleteGreat introduction, Leslie!
I heard so much about Vancouver - and your pic show it! Am tinkering with my ipad in ,u hotel room, Yuscany Italy, and hope I can get to ABC's site to add my pic. Anyways, have a great week!
ReplyDeleteA VERITABLE wonderland!! Been there only once and hope some day to go back.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! It is a delightful spot. Haven't visited there, but I think I definitely should since I've thought about it off and on through the years. People whom I have met from Vancouver definitely are special people.
ReplyDeleteAs a blogger from Kamloops, BC, I couldn't agree with you more! Although I don't live there, I do claim Vancouver as part of me. It is MY city. Her vibrant beauty and grace are part of me.
ReplyDeleteVancouver looks like a truly wonderful place to visit! And to be from! I can see why you are so proud of it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots and post about beautiful Vancouver.
ReplyDeleteOK - I have a question for y'all. Would you prefer bigger thumbnail pics (and a reduced number of pics per row), or more pics per row. I don't much care.
ReplyDeletePrevious week there were 8 pics. Current set up allows 7. Can make pics bigger, and allow for 6.
I like the 7 in a row, Roger. I think 6 might actually be too big.
ReplyDeleteVancouver also seems full of VITALITY! what beautiful scenes!
ReplyDeleteA few years back I would have had no connections in Vancouver, but my husband's brother moved there about ten years ago and he loves it! Now I also have a cousin there. I think she loves it too. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about flying in. I get all goose-bumpy and think, "I'm home, I'm home" even though I now live in Alberta. We're coming out by car soon, to introduce our dog to her "cousins", and to meet my only Davies grandnephew, whiz madly around for a few days seeing as many family members as possible, then off again in a great mad whirl.
ReplyDeleteOne of these days, I'd like to come out by myself, get a hotel room right in the city, relax, and let everyone visit me. Here's hoping it isn't a room at VGH. LOL

Vancouver looks so picturesque! I have been close when I visited Alberta and Saskatchewan but that is all! Would so love to return and see this part of Canada!
ReplyDeleteMountains, water, and beautiful city--what else does a person need.
ReplyDeleteI loved visiting Vancouver and seeing it through the eyes of a friend, a Vancouver native. Your city is indeed magnificent, as is this picture, and little wonder you miss it when traveling!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post!!! Vancouver is Very Versatile! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat choice for 'V'.
ReplyDeleteI hope to visit some day.
Looks very interesting to visit !
ReplyDeleteYou do your city proud. These shots of Vancouver are so inviting.
ReplyDeleteI almost went to Vancouver. I wanted to go by train from Windsor It would take 4 days, and I flew instead from Detroit to San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteVerily, visiting Vancouver one day I hope.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful city!
ReplyDeleteNice to see Vancouver in all its glory!!! Just lovely.
