In the wake of one of the worst tragedies ever, it's hard to imagine that one of the most joyous days of the year - Christmas - is next week! While we who are safely ensconced in the warm embrace of family and friends, may we all remember those who are suffering so terribly right now after losing their loved ones, especially innocent little children. Try to remember that they were all in the process of celebrating the reason for the season - the birth of Christ Jesus. Even if you are not a "believer," I'm sure all are believers of love, friendship, freedom, and peace for all mankind. Here at ABC Wednesday, the team would like to extend warm wishes for the holiday season and the best for a happy new year. I'd like to share with you my favourite song of the season, sung by CeeLo. Hopefully, it will wash away our sorrows in this time of senseless brutality and give us hope for the future.

Wonderful post as we try to make sense of the senseless. I love that carol especially the words by Mark Lowry. The video was very good -- realistic too. Is it a movie about to be released?

ReplyDeleteWe weep with them. May the loved ones left behind find comfort for their pain. I like the imagery painted in a poem recently published (on a blog) about the little ones who perished in this tragedy - that they are spending Christmas with the One whom Christmas is about.

I've loved this song since it first came out, and have seen and heard several versions....but this no doubt is the best ever. Thanks Roger for sharing it, and for your sensitive thought too. What a Bittersweet Christmas this year. I'm hugging all my grandchildren so tightly. Sending love and Christmas wishes to you and all those you hold dear.

ReplyDeleteThe song reminded me of a performance of "Jesus Christ Superstar" that grades 4,5 and 6 students produced many years ago when I taught in an elementary school. My beliefs seem to blend the more peaceful and loving aspects of several religions, and your comment that we are all believers of "love, friendship, freedom and peace" was deeply appreciated. By the way, the "walk on water" reference in the song was a great "W" find. Also, it might amuse you to know that the students in that school were Jewish, and the sons and daughters of very wealthy Montreal residents. I didn't know of the musical but they came to me, begging to produce it. At first, I just came in to school in the early mornings and they tried to run the practices entirely on their own. Finally, they needed me to help with the musical accompaniment and also to settle a dispute over who would play Jesus (one did the first half and the other, the second). In the end, it was a wonderful success, with the kids doing all of their own choreography and costumes, parents doing make-up and all of the staff coming together to help out with sets and extra practices during class time. It is one of the great memories of my early teaching years, and inspired by your beautiful song, so my heartfelt and very warm thanks to you.
