19-L

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the and I've chosen for the word  Letters

It's all what this meme is about , it's what we are all about. Whatever we do, where ever we are everything can be told in letters. They are to be found all over the place and some of them are to be found in masterpieces of poems, stories, films & music.

On the photo a large piece of embroidery.
Long time ago I bought it from someone and a couple of years ago I gave it as a present to a very talented, young, musician, who knows his way with letters in all that he does.

I've had it on our livingroomwall for quit a while because I am a musiclover as (hobby-) musician as well. I don't perform anymore but I cherish very dear memories of many years singing, dancing and playing instruments.

Have a nice ABC-Wednesday-day / - week ~

K is for kitty cats

We have two kitty cats at home, Midnight and Stormy.

Although they didn't get along in the beginning AT ALL, they developed a grudging affection for each other. Midnight is usually the one who comes into our room at 5:30 a.m. and head butts me while I'm trying to get a little more sleep. I walk out of the room, and he leaps of the bed, halfway down the steps. I close the door and snooze for another 30 minutes, until his - pardon the expression - caterwauling finally gets me up .

Midnight is the one who will come into the office and want to sit on my lap. But I can't type if he's on my lap, or on the keyboard, which he's mucked up more than once.

Stormy is more my wife's and my daughter's cat. She'll give me affection if she things it'll get her fed, but usually not. She WILL sit by me on the sofa, though, watching TV. Don't ask me what she likes to watch; I wasn't paying close enough attention.

My wife said the vet commented that both of them need to lose some weight, and thanks to the regimen my wife's put them on, they've both lost over a pound, about half a kilogram. But because they're still a little hungry, they come up to me and say, "Nobody has fed us!" They are SUCH liars!

J for Jungle.

Today I'm writing about another of my favourite childhood stories, it's called 'The Jungle Books' written in  1894 by an aspiring young writer, Rudyard Kipling; born in Bombay (Mumbai) in 1865 . His parents John Lockwood Kipling, an artist and teacher of architectural sculptures and his mother Alice, who also was a teacher. My grandma once confided in me that her side of the family were distantly related to Rudyard Kipling, via her Great Grandma, that they were second cousins. All this was very hush hush, as I believe there was some illegitimacy involved. Grandma then informed me I was not to mention this to anyone else... so didn't,  until now!

The JUNGLE  Books.
The original leather bound edition of JUNGLE BOOK

The  tales in The Jungle Books are fables using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of the law of the Jungle. For example, to lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. The three best known of these are the  stories revolving around Mowgli an abandoned "man cub" who is raised by wolves in the Indian Jungle.

Several versions of these stories have been produced and I'm pretty sure most people know of them if only by watching the delightful animated Disney movie.

If my Grandma's claims are correct you could just claim that you know of a  'far removed cousin' (if only) of Rudyard Kipling.

My sincere thanks to the JOLLY Denise for devising abcw, also to ROGER  the JUDICIOUS 'admin' man for doing what he does and of course Leslie who JUSTLY assists him.

 Best wishes Di. abcw team.

I is for iron

You all know that iron is a metal, number 26 on the periodic table, with the symbol Fe, from Latin: ferrum. Magnets are attracted to iron, and vice versa. Such romance.

There's a landmark building in New York City, at 175 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, called the Flat Iron Building, so named because of "its resemblance to a cast-iron clothes iron."

Ironing. Now that's a task I never really got into. I'd probably be like that scene in the TV show Frasier with Niles Crane ironing. I've never had anything catch on fire, but I've scorched a few things in my time. Thank goodness for permanent press, which really isn't "permanent" but close enough.

I discovered this list of idioms with the word iron. One is to iron out. The first meaning is the obvious literal one, but the second is "to ease a problem; to smooth out a problem."

Having too many irons in the fire means "to be doing too many things at once." That describes me this particular week.

Iron is strong, so there are a few athletic references. Pumping iron is to lift weights. An iron man is "a man who is physically very strong and can work hard for a long time," thus the Ironman Thiathlon, which consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, "raced in that order and without a break. It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world."

And, of course, those triathletes need plenty of iron in their diets. But they needn't have a cast-iron stomach, which is, figuratively speaking, "a very strong stomach that can withstand bad food or anything nauseating."

I hope you can iron out your schedule, and have the strength and endurance, to participate in this I week for ABC Wednesday.
