Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the L and I've chosen for the word  Letters

It's all what this meme is about , it's what we are all about. Whatever we do, where ever we are everything can be told in letters. They are to be found all over the place and some of them are to be found in masterpieces of poems, stories, films & music.

Long time ago I bought it from someone and a couple of years ago I gave it as a present to a very talented, young, musician, who knows his way with letters in all that he does.

I've had it on our livingroomwall for quit a while because I am a musiclover as (hobby-) musician as well. I don't perform anymore but I cherish very dear memories of many years singing, dancing and playing instruments.

Love is..

There are many things in life that I love so  I thought I'd share some of them with you. When I was young I would fall 'in love' so easily that,  one of my friends, who was quite pragmatic, accused me of 'wearing my heart on my sleeve' !

But of course I didn't agree, what was wrong with falling 'in love' ?

This particular friend  who was a lovely girl had a boyfriend and had been seeing him for a couple of years but he treated her so badly, he had her waiting around expecting her to do whatever he wanted to do, instead of her making decisions too. I couldn't understand her but of course she was 'in love'  but could never admit it !




One of my favourite texts in the bible comes from Corinthians 13:4-7.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast.

 It is not proud. 

 It does not dishonour others,  It is not self seeking,

 It is not easily angered.

 It keeps no records of wrongs.

 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

 It always protects, always trusts,

 always hopes, always perseveres.

As today is Easter day I would like to send love and best wishes to all for a happy and peaceful Easter.

My sincere thanks the lovely lady, Denise who devised Abcw and  to Roger for his laudable ways in doing what he does in keeping abcw up and running, also to the team of helpers who assist with the visits and commenting.

L is for love songs of the 1960s

I have this book called Across the Charts: The 1960s, which indicates all the songs that hit the various US Billboard Hot 100 Singles (listed as pop), R&B Singles, Adult Contemporary (AC) and Country Singles.

What I have listed here is a roster of songs, which links to each of them, that 1) I was familiar with, 2) made it on more than one chart between 1960 and 1969, and 3) start with the word "love", or a variation on it. I didn't find any country crossovers. And I cheated on one item, a song that Bubbled Under the Hot 100. These are in alphabetical order by title:

L-O-V-E - Nat King Cole. #17 AC, #81 pop, 1964
My late mother's favorite singer, Nat would pass away less than six months after this song was released, from lung cancer.

Love Is A Doggone Good Thing - Eddie Floyd. #30 R&B, #97 pop, 1967
A song on that OTHER great soul label of the era, STAX.

Love Is Blue - Paul Mauriat. #1 for 11 weeks AC, #1 for 5 weeks pop, 1968
One of the biggest instrumental hits, ever.

Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart - Supremes. #7 R&B, #9 pop, 1966
This is the LOWEST-charting pop single by the Supremes between mid-1964 to the end of 1967.

Love (Makes Me Do Foolish Things) - Martha & The Vandellas. #22 R&B, #70 pop, 1966
Another great Motown female singing group.

Love's Gone Bad - Chris Clark. #41 R&B, #105 pop, 1966
She was one of the relatively few white artists on the Motown label.

A Lover's Concerto - the Toys. #2 for 3 weeks, 4 R&B, 1965
This tune was based on the Minuet in G major. Until 1970 it was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, but it is now universally attributed to Christian Petzold.

L is for Love

Nearly every Valentine's Day, I hear the same thing: "Why do we need a holiday to show LOVE?" It is akin to what is said each Thanksgiving. “Why aren't people thankful ALL the time?”

And my answer is always the same: because we are human. Yes, we should ALL be LOVING and thankful ALL the time. But sometimes, we're not. Sometimes, we are tired, or grumpy, or distracted, or overwhelmed. Our thoughts are overstuffed by the busyness of LIFE.

I, for one, need/want special days to remember veterans, or show thanks, or express LOVE, or the LIKE.

Here are some Valentine's Day statistics.

The music industry LOVES LOVE. The latest project from Nickolay Lamm—a Pittsburgh-based digital artist...tracked the popularity of certain keywords across more than 50 years of the Billboard charts. One of the most consistent words? LOVE.

Lamm's "History of Music" project details every song on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 list since 1960. Each colored rectangle in the visualization represents one song, and each column represents one year of the list, organized from the top of the graph to the bottom starting with the year's most popular song. The redder the rectangle is, the more times that word popped up in the song’s lyrics. Blue means it wasn't mentioned at all. You can see not only how often a word has appeared in pop music over the decades, but what percentage of each song was dedicated to that word.

Since "LOVE" has taken a dip in our music this century, we obviously need to have show more LOVE at every opportunity. Here are the lyrics of a noted song on the topic, circa 1967:

Liverpool Uk..... Love of Life.....

 Liverpool my home town is a most interesting City , it sits on the  edge of the River Mersey and is steeped in maritime history. Across the river is the Wirral Peninsular where many of the professionals, who worked in the thriving city lived, it was affectionately known as the dormitory to Liverpool as the wealthy earned their fortunes in the City and took the Mersey ferries home to The Wirral to sleep. 

 

One of famous Mersey Ferry Boats chugging across the river conveying the weary workers to their homes after a hard day keeping the wheels of commerce in progress. The three buildings behind the ferry boat are called The Three Graces, on the left is The Liver Building then The Cunard Building and finally The port of Liverpool Building. Just to the right is The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, which is set slightly back from the waterfront.

I had the privilege of working for a firm of Investment Managers and Stock Brokers in The Port of Liverpool Building. It was a joy to work there as my desk looked directly across the river so life was never dull watching the comings and goings on the river. There were wonderful sunsets across the river too, which reflected a visage of The Welsh Hills just beyond The Wirral. 

Images of the beautiful interior of the building, starting from top right looking up from the four galleried floors to the spectacular domed ceiling, then middle left the winding stairway up to the 4th floor where I worked...I used to almost sprint up the stairs as part of a keep fit campaign ! I was about 35 years of age then.  To the right is part of the beautifully crafted ground floor.

 Happy days for me then I had met Ian, soon to be my second husband and wonderful step daddy to our three girls.

It's little wonder I could sprint up those stairs!

As it happened I had been living on The Wirral for twenty years but decided to sell my home and move back to my roots in LIVERPOOL when we married.

We have never looked back... The three girls all did very well in their new schools, LIVERPOOL has some of the finest state schools in the country.

They are all happily married, two of them to LIVERPOOL boys and one to a Lovely guy from London....

Up to date we have four Loving grandchildren, so all I can say is

LIVERPOOL I  LOVE YOU !

 

I am dedicating my LIVERPOOOL post to dear Lorne and Leslie to just let them know how we all are thinking about them.

 I know Leslie has a special place in her heart for LIVERPOOL after her visit two years ago. It was such a joy to meet her , I felt as if I'd known her a lifetime.

   

 My sincere thanks to the lovely Denise for devising ABCWENESDAY and also to the legendary Roger for his hard work as the Administrator.

L is for LOTS

Welcome to L week at ABC Wednesday!  I decided to use the simple word LOTS for this week because I've noticed we've attracted LOTS of new contributors.  That's simply wonderful because as memes go, this one has luckily been quite successful.  Thanks to Mrs. Denise Nesbitt for her creative idea some 7 years ago, this meme has had contributors from all over the world starting in her native England and spreading to Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, India, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Serbia, and the Scandinavian countries.  I've likely forgotten some so do let us know.  Some people have had enough of ABCW and have temporarily lapsed from it, but new people keep arriving to keep our current administrator Roger Green and his loyal team of assistants extremely busy.  So far in this Round 14, we're attracting well over 70 people and sometimes over 80!  So if you'd be interested in joining the administrative team to help out responding to about 10 posts per week, just get in touch with our learned leader Roger by leaving a comment below.

Let me LOL

When I started blogging, very often on some comments I read "lol" after a sentence. As always when I don't understand a thing I google ! (which btw is a new verb too) and now I know ! LOL is an acronym for "laughing out loud" or "laugh out loud", and is a common element of Internet slang. But then sometimes I read "LMAO", and had to google again ! When I learned that it meant "laughing my ass off" I decided to rather use "LMPO", which would mean that I laugh my posterior off. I don't have an ass, I am a lady !

LOL was first documented in the Oxford English Dictionary in March 2011. WOW !

L is for Love Songs

Some noted philosopher once declared: "You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs. But I look around me and I see it isn't so. Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. And what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again."

That sage, of course, was one Sir James Paul McCartney, who wrote the song with his late wife Linda. Sir Paul's previous group, the Beatles, wrote a lot of love songs. Lennon/McCartney composed a bunch they gave to others, and the pre-success Fab Four covered love songs that appear on Live at the BBC and Anthology 1.

Here are some Beatles' songs with Love (or Loving) in the title, with links to the songs:

Love Me Do (1962) - pretty simple, or even simplistic, but became a big hit (UK 4, US 1) eventually.
P.S. I Love You (1962) - sweet song which went to UK 4, US 10.
She Loves You (1963) - despite the "yeah, yeah, yeah", a rather sophisticated piece for its time, written in the third person. #1 on both sides of the pond.
All My Loving (1963) — breaks into an almost rockabilly bridge. US #45.
Can't Buy Me Love (1964) - the significance of this song is that when the Beatles had the Top 5 songs in the US, on April 4, 1964, this was #1. Topped the charts in the UK, too.
And I Love Her (1964) - a beautiful song from A Hard Day's Night, went US #12.
Words of Love (1964) a Buddy Holly cover from the Beatles for Sale album.
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (1965) - a sad song from the Help! soundtrack.
It's Only Love (1965) - album cut on Help! (UK), Rubber Soul (US).
Love You To (1966) - Revolver album cut, complete with sitar.
All You Need Is Love (1967) - now this IS a silly love song.
"There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

It's easy."
But I love it anyway, especially the She Loves You reprise. #1 on both sides of the pond.
Real Love (1995) - the completion of a 1979 John Lennon song that appears on Anthology 2 (UK 4, US 11).

The Cirque du Soleil soundtrack of Beatle mashups is appropriately titled LOVE. BTW, John Lennon's 72nd birthday would have been next week (October 9).

LEAPING LIZARDS

Leaping Lizards! It's already time for the Letter L! Since my Lapel reads "Leslie," I've been asked to write a Little prelude for our List of contributors. Don't think of this as Labour, but as a Labour of Love. In fact, maybe you Learned the Lamaze technique of childbirth and want to share your experience. Maybe you have a Lovely Labrador or you Live in Labrador and would Love to share some photos. Maybe you're into Lacework and can tell us about how to do it. Maybe you Love flowers and have some beautiful photos of Lilies, (those are mine at left) Larkspur, Lotus, or Lavender. Maybe you've spent time at Lake Louise and barbecued Lamb chops, all the while hoping you wouldn't get Lambasted by a wild Lynx or giant Lizard. Maybe you'd like to tell us about your Lust for Luscious Lemon pie, Liver and onions, Lasagne, or Limburger cheese. Have you ever bought a Lucky Lottery ticket? Maybe I'll tell you all about my Lack of Love Life, Lowest common denominators, Lowercase Letters, and Latitude and Longitude! Nah!
