S for Satnav..

SATNAV

I have a little Satnav it sits there in my car.
A Satnav is a driver's best friend it tells you where you are.
I have a little Satnav, I've had it all my life
I'ts better than the normal ones,

MY 'SATNAV' IS MY WIFE !

It gives me full instructions, especially how to drive
"It'sixty miles" it says  "You're doing sixty five".
It tells me when to stop and start, and when to use the brake
And tells me it's never ever, safe to overtake.
It tells me when a light is red, and when it goes to green

It seems to know instinctively just when to intervene.
It lists the vehicles just in front, and all those to the rear.
And taking all this into account It specifies my gear.
I'm sure no other driver has so helpful a device,
For when we leave and lock the car, it still gives it's advice.
So why don't I exchange it and get a quieter sort ?
Ah well, you see, it cleans the house,
 makes sure I'm properly fed,

It washes all my shirts and things, and keeps me warm in bed!
Despite all these advantages, and my tendency to scoff,
I only wish that now and then, I could turn the b*****r off.

The S shape reminds me of a snake.

This is a very dangerous snake in Australia, which is a continent with many kinds of snakes. This one is the Taipan. It's bite is lethal if you are not fast enough to have the wound treated. Actually it is a very shy snake. In the breeding season however it can be very aggressive.

It is no wonder that the indigenous people of Australia believed that the snake

is a sacred creature. 

The Rainbow Serpent or Rainbow Snake is a common deity, often a creator god, in the mythology and a common motif in the art of Aboriginal Australia.

In Cooktown near  the Endeavour River we find a beautiful work of art created by the local people of Cooktown and the Aboriginal compound Hopevale. It's called the Milbi Wall, which means Wall of Stories.

It has the shape of a snake and consists of three parts representing :

1  The dreamtime.

2 The first encounter of people from other continents, like Captain Cook from Europe and lateron Chinese golddiggers.

3 The present

On this wall the artists have depicted the Aboriginal legends, tales and historical events.

From the Milbi Wall Story:


To acknowledge the significance of the first known European contact with the Aboriginal people of the area, Cook Shire Council decided, as a reconciliation project, to have a Memorial to tell from an Aboriginal point of view.

 

Cook Shire Council invited local Aboriginal people to tell their story in ceramic tiles and build a Story (Milbi) Wall right at the spot where, in 1770, Captain James Cook and his crew first set foot.
Milbi is the Guugu Yimithirr (local Aboriginal language) word for story.

The Milbi Wall was developed by a group of local Aboriginal artists and storytellers, with assistance from a well-known potter and the Gungarde Aboriginal Corporation.

S Stands for Stuff

I don't write as many intros as the rest of the team members, so you would think that, having more time to work on them, mine would always be Superb. But alas, Such is Seldom the case. So, let's See... Among my favorite "S" words are Sarcasm, and Sloth, neither of which lends themselves to a Suitable Script. Fortunately for me, I have a Stand-by Subject. The Symbol, or Sign that we use each round has been a pet project of mine for Several rounds now, the rest of the team has indulged me and let me play, and I have always had fun designing them. And since Seventeen starts with S, this is a good time to talk about next round. Secular Symbolism for Seventeen is Scant, So I did as I often do, I let my mind wander aimlessly to see what popped up. I have no particular Symbolism for this one, but it was just kind of what appeared when I let my mind drift and started computer doodling. Spooky, huh? So with no further ado, I would like to give you a Sneak Peek at the proposed Round 17 Logo.

S is for Happy Birthday?

This blog is managed by a team that consists of a whole bunch of SERIOUS  hardworking people, and then me (SLACKER).

While everyone else does the hard part, I get the fun part.  Every SIX months, I get invited to design a new logo or badge, to represent the next round.

And so I get to let my mind SPIN wild and free and see where it lands.

The next round will be SIXTEEN.  Can you believe it?  This blog has been going on for SEVEN and a half years and is STILL going STRONG!

In honor of the SIXTEENTH round, I wanted to SING a SONG.

As a matter of fact, it's hard for me to hear the word "Sixteen" without mentally adding the word "candles" after it.

So it was only natural that this round's badge would have candles.

It was not without a few challenges that I came up with this, at one point Roger and I discussed whether it would be easier to just bake a cake.

But It would have been hard to share a cake with everyone, so I am calling on each of you to bake a cake, eat a piece and start thinking about things that start with S.

There is still time to make a some changes if I need to.

John F. Kennedy, Assassinated

Some of you will remember this day of infamy.  Some of you had not been born yet, but most likely will have learned of this horrific incident in History class.  This year marks the 50th anniversary and I can remember the day as though it were yesterday.  I was home from high school sick in bed when my mother rushed in and told me to "Get up! President Kennedy's been assassinated!"  Even though we're Canadians, we both knew the significance and possible ramifications it could have on our own country, let alone on the United States of America.  There is no point in going into the details of the event or the consequences since we're all aware of them.  Suffice to say that we should remember him and his family and what he did for his country and beyond.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty."

November 11th is called "Remembrance Day" in Canada and "Veterans Day" in the USA.  Perhaps November 22nd should be called something other than the day Kennedy died.  Your thoughts?

It just might behoove the current leaders of the world's nations to stop and remember not only John F. Kennedy's assassination, but also to recall his perceptive and discerning wisdom.  Remembrance Day (Canada) and Veterans Day (USA) was November 11th when we stopped to remember our fallen warriors.  Perhaps November 23rd should be called something other than the day Kennedy died.Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Ideas for S's are SLOWLY developing in my SLUGGISH brain, but my SYNAPSES are not SENDING SIGNALS throughout my nervous SYSTEM as SWIFTLY as I'd like.  Instead of pondering this SAD SITUATION, I invite y'all to SEND and post SUBSTANTIAL and SUPERIOR SNAPSHOTS for this week's theme.  No doubt, you will all rise to the challenge and post SINGULAR and SIGNIFICANT images and SCENES.  Treat the rest of us to SOMETHING SPECIAL!  SO STEP- RIGHT up and dazzle us with your SELECTION! Since this is S week, I'll keep this introduction short and sweet. S is for signs and I'm only posting one shot but it contains dozens of signs.

Say! This is Sylvia and guess what? It's the S day and Sam Schnauzer and I are ready to climb into our Sailboat with a bouquet of Sunflowers, a bowl full of Salad, a Salami Sandwich or two to Satisfy our appetite and, of course, a pitcher of Sangria to Sip on as we Sit Safely on the Sand at the beach! Who knows who may come Sailing up with a Saber! I hate to get Sentimental, but I'm Suddenly reminded of the year I lived in Mexico and Sat on my patio, wrapped in my Serape, watching the Sunsets! So, Schlepp along with us. Share the Smiles, Sing Some Songs, Swing your hips and dance and just be Silly and never too Serious! That is how we find the Sweetness of life and avoid the Storms!! Is that Super or what!! So long, See you next week -- bring Some Sourdough bread , Some Smiles and prepare to Sing Some Songs, even if the weather is Stormy! Okay?
