Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photo-meme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. I’m always curious to what you come up with!

 The challenging letter of this week is the Y and I've chosen for the word Yoghurt

 What you see beneath is something I like very very very much but since october last I am not allowed to eat it anymore due to intestinal problems. A lot more products more are on the banned list now and although I don't have to much problems with my diet I do miss some things, this one being one of them. The fruit still is okay thankfully but for example coffee is not, that I miss very much too.

What is your favorite dessert? Can/may you eat anything you like or??

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photo-meme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. I’m always curious to what you come up with!

 The challenging letter of this week is the X and I've chosen for the word Xerotes

 In my previous post for this meme I wrote about water of which we have plenty in the country where I live. Today I choose my X-entry for the opposite and thinking about it I wonder what I really can say about it by own experience... nothing really because I have never had to live with shortage of it so I don't know that much about it.

Still... there are places on our planet in which people live who experience Xerotes every second of almost every day.  That must be horrific! I truly can not imagine how it must be to live in such a place.

Whenever I want to... I can use water..... for whatever I want to... never have to worry about it. However, growing up I've learned to appreciate it and not spoil it, not because there was a threat of shortage but because my parents were far from rich and water had its price, it still does over here. I've taught my children the same but still, sometimes I have to tell them to be more economical with it. They shower to long for example, leave the faucet running while they brush their teeth.

 Since this meme goes all over the world I wonder... do you, or did you ever, have to live with Xerotes and if so how did/do you deal with it?

W for Wonder.

A great and mighty Wonder,  a full and holy cure:

 The virgin bears the infant with virgin honour pure!

 Repeat the hymn again:

 The word becomes incarnate and yet remains on high,

 And cherubim sing anthems to shepherds from the sky

Sadly, as I write about 'peace on earth to men' using the words of a favourite Greek carol, innocent Turkish people have been killed by crazy suicide bombers....  WHY ?

V is for Variety

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photo-meme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week.
I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the V and I've chosen for the word Variety

 If with anything at all,  the worlds content could be named in a single word,  it would be Variety if you ask me. Many things look a like but in totally are not. Only 2 kinds of people, male or female, but jet, not every man, not every woman is the same as the first next one. Variety in culture, who we live our lives, where we live, what we do because we need to, what we do because we want to, how we think, how we express ourselves, in which surroundings we live, our families, our hobby's .... There are so many things  I could name more but there's no need for it, you all know what I am talking about, don't you?

I love variety... in all sorts of ways, as everybody does I guess.

One of my favorite variety's occurs every week, here on my blog and many blogs more with participants of this meme. Every week all just use the same letter but the blogposts they post about it are very different, even when more participants choose the same word. It really is a surprise, over and over again, visiting a participant because I am curious what he/she has chosen this time.

Since its fully autumn over here in The Netherlands, including heavy storms, much rain and darker skies earlier in the day... I've chosen a photo which shows variety to.

Wishing you all a wonderful variety in every day life and experiences. That the beauty of life, no matter how great the variety in it, may colour your heart and soul in a great as possible variety of happy feelings and luck!

U for Under Milkwood

Under Milkwood  is the most amusing play written for the radio in 1954 by the highly acclaimed Welsh writer and poet Dylan Thomas.

 The story is based around a fictional Welsh fishing village called Llareggub which, if you spell it backwards, it says 'Buggerall which is a sardonic term meaning nothing.

The village is full of quirky characters including Captain Cat who is blind and is haunted by the loss of his crew in a violent storm.

This just a small offering this week as there was some confusion (caused by Google) so I abandoned my part written offering, only to be asked if I would carry on with it.

There is so much more to tell you about Under Milkwood ,which I shall in due course ! My enduring memories of this wonderful writing by Dylan Thomas is sitting around our huge radio with my family and hearing the dulcet tones of Richard Burton's voice narrating this wonderful tale.

 In 1972 it was made into a film starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor although it was quite good I could still close my eyes and just listen to the narration.

T is for...

TEN

Ten years!!!

That's how long this blog has been around.  I joined at about the halfway point and it's been an interesting ride.

Anyone here who has been here since round one?

I'd love to see some of your early posts and hear how you feel the blog has evolved.

It's time to unveil the badge for round 20, our final round and I have to say this was one of the Toughest for me to do.

I knew what I wanted to do.  But I kept putting it off.

I believed that if I procrastinated long enough it would change the inevitable result.  But that never works, so with encouragement from Roger, I completed the final badge.

I only wish we had actual shirts.

So T is for T-shirt and for farewell Tour.

But mostly T is for Thank You to each of you who has stayed with us.

S for Satnav..

SATNAV

I have a little Satnav it sits there in my car.
A Satnav is a driver's best friend it tells you where you are.
I have a little Satnav, I've had it all my life
I'ts better than the normal ones,

MY 'SATNAV' IS MY WIFE !

It gives me full instructions, especially how to drive
"It'sixty miles" it says  "You're doing sixty five".
It tells me when to stop and start, and when to use the brake
And tells me it's never ever, safe to overtake.
It tells me when a light is red, and when it goes to green

It seems to know instinctively just when to intervene.
It lists the vehicles just in front, and all those to the rear.
And taking all this into account It specifies my gear.
I'm sure no other driver has so helpful a device,
For when we leave and lock the car, it still gives it's advice.
So why don't I exchange it and get a quieter sort ?
Ah well, you see, it cleans the house,
 makes sure I'm properly fed,

It washes all my shirts and things, and keeps me warm in bed!
Despite all these advantages, and my tendency to scoff,
I only wish that now and then, I could turn the b*****r off.

R is for Restoration

Many years ago Jon and I were at an auction when this old lawnmower came under the hammer, I got it for £2. It has been a garden ornament for 20 years but Jon restored it for me....he made a new roller and a new handle, stripped all the metal parts and sharpened the blades. It cuts perfectly!

The lawn is Jon's domain and loves nothing more than to sit on his lawnmower and spend a couple of hours getting the perfect cut - but for small area, or round trees this is perfect. It is a Ransom Henley model.






I am really pleased with the washstand - it has been just an ornamental piece for years, but it too has done well for being restored.

Restoring is certainly the way to go right now - is it the same in other parts of the world?

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week.
I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the Q and I've chosen for the word Quest

Coming again to the letter Q, searching for an appropriate word, I realized that filling in some letters truly is a quest.
Just joined ABC Wednesday, its the 5th time that I have to fill in this letter and that is not that easy, especially for someone who's native tongue is an other then the English one.
But for this time, I've succeeded. Next time?...Time will tell won't it? *smile*

 So many things can be categorized under 'quest'... can't they?
 I would like to say that life in itself is a quest, at least to me it is. Always trying to look for the bright side, however dark some moments can be.

Another quest, in which I find lots and lots of joy is going out with my camera, the quest for beautiful things to capture so that I whenever I want or need to, can relive that moment and re-feel the joy to that I had at the moment of capture. Photographing is my favorite quest, as you might have guessed by now. Its a quest which gives pleasure, lots of it, and who does not want to have that?

P is for Pumpkin!

We are enjoying a great week of pumpkin fun - for the first time villages are coming together and working towards a full programme of activities. The banner above is displayed through all the villages.

Tomorrow we are having an exciting cookery session at our village hall - it is fully booked! The recipes sound fun!

I suppose I OUGHT to go with the OBVIOUS, O is for OCTOBER.

There are a lot of holidays, and holy days, this month.

OCTOBER 2 (evening), ending in the evening of OCTOBER 4 - Rosh Hashanah. Happy 5777 on the Jewish calendar

OCTOBER 10 - Thanksgiving (Canada). Columbus Day (US), which has been OFTEN supplanted by Indigenous Peoples Day, for reasons you can read about here

OCTOBER 11 (evening), ends in the evening of OCTOBER 12 - Yom Kippur

OCTOBER 24 - United Nations Day

OCTOBER 31 - Halloween, All Hallows Eve

And there are OTHERS.

I'd reviewed a book called Apocrypha Now, a slightly OFF-kilter book about the religious works that didn't find their way into the King James Version of the Bible, such as the Jewish midrash, the Catholic Douay books of the Apocrypha, and those New Testament gospels that did not make the cut.

ONE story was about God giving Moses the 10 commandments, then getting really annoyed by the golden calf worship thing and temporarily abandoning Israel. But ultimately God came around.

The nation of Israel was so overcome by God's forgiveness that everyone spent the day crying, and that got God crying, and soon everyone was just a big emotional mess.

"That was great," Moses said. "Really cathartic."

"You know what? Let's celebrate this day every year. We can call it 'Apology Day.' Everyone who deserves an apology gets one, and everyone who needs to apologize gets to," God suggested...

"I thought the climax of my relationship with the human race was going to be giving you the law," God said. "But it wasn't. It was forgiving you for breaking it."

Apology Day came to be known as Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar...

On the Ark [of the Covenant] they inscribed two of God's many names - Elohim: God the Powerful, and Adonai: God the Merciful.

N is for New Car

There is nothing nicer than taking delivery of a  New Car.

We've been driving Honda CRV's for the past nine years but, as needs change, I've been finding it increasingly more difficult to hoist myself  in and out of the car.

Recently husband had to part with his beloved 20-year-old BMW 5 series, it was sitting on the drive doing nothing, we really don't need two cars now,  thus, it failed it's MOT which meant spending a lot of money on it, plus the cost of insurance and road tax, it was a very expensive indulgence!

 (Below the beloved vintage, almost, BMW).

I knew he was missing his old car so we decided upon another BMW and here it is, (above) Oh! how we love it.  It has cream leather seats with heated front seats for passenger and driver.

 I can get in and out of it quite easily and the seats  are really comfortable.

Later on, in this month we are driving to Powys in mid-Wales to a lovely, ECO 

Lodge holiday cottage, in a pretty little village called St Harmon,

 Rhayader pictured below (Rhayader the oldest town in mid-Wales.)

  I don't doubt himself will, 'put the New car through its paces'.

 We will drive through some beautiful scenery, the area is called ;  

'The Lake District of Wales'.

The Chapel in the valley at Autumn, the time we shall be visiting,

 I'm so excited as we haven't had a holiday for some time now due to my on-going health issues and my husband 's too!

  We've both spent the past two years in and out of hospital clinics but now as all is settled, for the time being,  we hope to really enjoy this special time together, in the lovely autumnal scenery.

 We will celebrate our 29th Wedding Anniversary, in a gorgeous Eco lodge near to the lovely scenes above. 

My thanks to Denise, a NATIONAL TREASURE who devised ABCW,  Roger the administrator who has NOBLY  worked tirelessly to keep ABCW running, along with the NOTABLE Leslie, and NOT  forgetting the NATTY  team of Abcw helpers.

Bev recently lost her companion of 9 years, Mabel - she was lonely, so we sourced some fertile eggs and let her hatch them. Bev has always been a broody hen, an excellent mum.

Hello and good morning, -afternoon, -evening, dear people who all participate is this wonderful photomeme, which is a joy to me, week after week, after week. I’m always curious to what you come up with!

The challenging letter of this week is the L and I've chosen for the word  Letters

It's all what this meme is about , it's what we are all about. Whatever we do, where ever we are everything can be told in letters. They are to be found all over the place and some of them are to be found in masterpieces of poems, stories, films & music.

On the photo a large piece of embroidery.
Long time ago I bought it from someone and a couple of years ago I gave it as a present to a very talented, young, musician, who knows his way with letters in all that he does.

I've had it on our livingroomwall for quit a while because I am a musiclover as (hobby-) musician as well. I don't perform anymore but I cherish very dear memories of many years singing, dancing and playing instruments.
