This is moi, Denise greeting YOU the DARLINGS of ABC Wednesday. I greet you from a sunny North Yorkshire here in UK. Outside my hens are awaiting their breakfast, following their early morning DUSTBATH

inside my dog Sadie is at my feet

and a little drive away my husband,

the wonderful engineer is beavering away in his workshop, keeping british industry going.

With him is Bing our other german shepherd......

waiting for 10 o'clock when I call for him and together with Sadie we go for our daily run about on the beach.

That's my DAY off to a start....what about you?

C is for......

Welcome to Week 3 of Round 12 of our Celebratory ABC Wednesday where once again we will Chew the Cud!

Meaning To chat, in an aimless manner.
Origin Alternative versions of this are 'chew the fat', 'chew the rag' etc. Cud is the part digested food that ruminant animals, notably cows, bring back into their mouths from their first stomach, to chew at
leisure.

 .

The image is of slow and aimless mastication and the allusive use of the phrase refers to that. In its literal sense there are references to chewing the cud' going back to Aelfric, 'De veteri et de novo testamento', circa 1000.

The first recorded use of it in the allusive 'chatting' sense is in Henry Fielding's The History of Tom Jones, 1749: "Having left her a little while to chew the cud, if I may use that expression, on these first tidings."

D is for DENISE

DAME DENISE (aka Mrs. Nesbitt) is our inDomitable and DYNAMIC leader!  She came up with the idea of a meme called ABC WEDNESDAY and it took off with a DRIVING force.  Now into its sixth year, currently at Round 11, there have been some DAZZLING and DELIGHTFUL DEVELOPMENTS.  DENISE DECIDED she had a need for a bit of assistance because, although DELIRIOUS that people from all over the world enjoy participating each week, it had become DIFFICULT to visit each contributor.  After all, the count is usually around 100 per week and she DOES have a life!  Therefore, DENISE'S group of DUTIFUL helpers DELIVER comments to everyone by evenly DIVIDING the job.  DURING this round, DENISE is still posting her own contribution; however, she is taking a well-DESERVED break from the DEMANDING DUTY of administering the meme. Our DIRECTOR this time is Sir Roger!  Please take a moment to stand and give DENISE a DEAFENING but DIGNIFIED ovation!  Here Here!
