D is for Delta blues

Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet.

A river delta is "a landform that forms at the mouth of a river, where the river flows into an ocean, sea, estuary, lake, or reservoir." In the United States, when referring to the "delta," one's usually talking about the delta of the largest river in North America, the Mississippi.

The Delta blues is "one of the earliest styles of blues music. It originated in the Mississippi Delta... that stretches from Memphis, Tennessee in the north to Vicksburg, Mississippi in the south... The Mississippi Delta area is famous both for its fertile soil and its poverty. Guitar, harmonica and cigar box guitar are the dominant instruments used, with slide guitar (usually on the steel guitar) being a hallmark of the style. The vocal styles range from introspective and soulful to passionate and fiery."

Read more about the delta blues at this PBS site.

There's a Delta blues museum in Clarksdale, MS, founded in 1979.

Read about Delta blues artists such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson.

Listen to two hours of delta blues.

D is for Decisions.

D is here, knocking on our door
well.... what we are all waiting for?
Will your post be for your DATE?
Will it be DELAYED or possibly late?
Will it be DARING, a little risky
or will it be DANGEROUS and even frisky?
Will it be a photo, a portrait or a scene?
Will it be an animal, do you have a theme?
The minutes are ticking decisions are made
Don't be shy or even afraid.
ABC Wednesday is on the increase,
created by your very own - me, yes Denise.
With Roger and Leslie and the rest of the crew
we now hand the reigns over to you.
So pull out your pen, your camera, whatever -
let's make it the best ABC for ever and ever!

D of Dutch

I am Dutch, but I don't sing like a Dutch nightingale  and my choir doesn't sing   a Dutch concert. I was, however suffering from the Dutch disease in the eighties.

I had a Dutch uncle, who stroke a Dutch bargain, after screwing up his Dutch courage. It was a Dutch consolation that he got a prize wrapped in Dutch gold.

He dutched his life , for he always spoke Double Dutch, when he and his friends went Dutch. He got a Dutch treat and after that he committed the Dutch act by putting his head in a Dutch oven.

During the late 17th century, the Dutch system of producing these cast metal cooking vessels was more advanced than the English system. The Dutch used dry sand to make their molds, giving their pots a smoother surface. Consequently, metal cooking vessels produced in the Netherlands were imported into Britain. In 1704, an Englishman named Abraham Darby decided to go to the Netherlands to observe the Dutch system for making these cooking vessels. Four years later, back in England, Darby patented a casting procedure similar to the Dutch process and began to produce cast-metal cooking vessels for Britain and her new American colonies. Thus the term “Dutch oven” has endured for over 300 years, since at least 1710

If you take part in this game:

1 please use the letter D in a photo, or in a poem, a story...whatever,

2 and refer to the founder of this meme:Mrs. Denise Nesbitt and Roger who took over from her.Or show the logo of this meme in your post, or (like I do) in the sidebar.

Don't forget these two conditions !!

See you my friends,

Wil, ABCW Team

D is for DENISE

DAME DENISE (aka Mrs. Nesbitt) is our inDomitable and DYNAMIC leader!  She came up with the idea of a meme called ABC WEDNESDAY and it took off with a DRIVING force.  Now into its sixth year, currently at Round 11, there have been some DAZZLING and DELIGHTFUL DEVELOPMENTSDENISE DECIDED she had a need for a bit of assistance because, although DELIRIOUS that people from all over the world enjoy participating each week, it had become DIFFICULT to visit each contributor.  After all, the count is usually around 100 per week and she DOES have a life!  Therefore, DENISE'S group of DUTIFUL helpers DELIVER comments to everyone by evenly DIVIDING the job.  DURING this round, DENISE is still posting her own contribution; however, she is taking a well-DESERVED break from the DEMANDING DUTY of administering the meme. Our DIRECTOR this time is Sir Roger!  Please take a moment to stand and give DENISE a DEAFENING but DIGNIFIED ovation!  Here Here!

To DENISE!

When Mrs. Nesbitt handed out intros this time, she suggested we all take the letter of our first name and do a bit about ourselves. Okay, I'm Donna, aka Misfit in Paradise, and I was born... hmm, maybe not that much history.

I am Delighted to be part of the ABC team. It is Decidedly an enjoyable part of my week even if my creative juices are Dormant occasionally.

Most importantly, remember that Mrs. Nesbitt, myself and the rest of the ABC crew are Dependent upon all of you to make this Dapper site that it is.
